Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Beacon
What is Beacon?
Beacon helps you stay off distracting apps during focus time and stay accountable with friends in Circles.
How does blocking work?
Beacon uses Apple's Screen Time APIs. You choose which apps and categories to block. Beacon cannot see your passwords or read app contents—only which apps you selected to shield.
What is a Circle?
A small group (up to 10 people) where you can share focus activity, send Beacons, schedule sessions, and challenge each other in Monk Mode.
How do I join a Circle?
Get a 6-character invite code from a friend. In the app: Circles → Join → enter the code. Or open an invite link from the web if Universal Links are enabled.
What is Monk Mode?
Open-ended focus. Solo mode allows breaks up to 45 minutes. Challenge mode is head-to-head with no breaks—last person still focusing wins.
What is a streak?
Consecutive days with qualifying focus time (sessions, Monk Mode, or scheduled blocks). Shown as a flame and number on Home.
What are Beacons?
When someone in your Circle starts focus, they can send you a Beacon so your apps are blocked for the same session window (if you accept inbound Beacons).
Do I need an account?
Yes. Sign in with Apple or email/password.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Delete account. This removes you from Circles and deletes your authentication record.
Is Beacon on Android?
Not at this time. iOS only.
Why does Beacon need Screen Time permission?
Without it, the app cannot block the apps you select during focus.
I'm not getting notifications.
Check iOS Settings → Notifications → Beacon, and ensure you're signed in. Invite notifications require the app to be installed; some alerts appear when the app is open.
